About Us

GEL South West is a training company that specialises in business, leadership and management skills development.  It has offices in Gloucester, Bristol and Plymouth and is ideally placed to deliver a wide range of training courses throughout the region, each of which is designed to help businesses improve and grow.

GEL-SW works on the premise that the quality of any organisation is a direct reflection of the quality of its leadership and management.  Good leaders and managers, who know what’s expected of them and have the skills, abilities and confidence to carry out their role, will contribute greatly to the organisation’s success – and that goes for every level in the organisation, from shop floor to board room.  GEL-SW has a role in providing that leadership development.

Over 5500 people train with GEL-SW each year, coming from 1800 different companies.  There are over 350 national qualifications achieved with GEL-SW in areas ranging from team leaders to supervisors to junior, middle and senior managers, to specialist roles in HR, Health & Safety, Sales and Marketing and Finance.

GEL SW is an accredited centre for the Institute of Leadership and Management (themselves the leading institute in Europe), as well as NEBOSH, IOSH and the British Computing Society.

We hold the prestigious Customer First Award, are one of the few Quality Assured Members of the National Enterprise Network.

However, our truest measure of quality is our repeat business rate, which sees 7 out of every 10 customers who use our services, do so again and again in the same year.

Customer Comments:

In the New Year I will be moving into a new role within the University. In addition to managing a team of ten staff I will be working closely with a team of professional librarians, Heads of Service, and the Director of Library and Learning Services on various projects, so I wanted a course that would give me additional skills and confidence to build effective working relationships, and manage conflict should it arise.

The ‘Influencing and negotiating at work’ day course at Gloucestershire Enterprise Ltd was perfect in meeting my needs. Each delegate carried out a Strength Deployment Inventory so that we could better understand our personal strengths and behaviours when relating to others: both when things are going well, and also when in conflict. With this insight we could then examine our working relationships and understand how they could be improved.

The trainer Paul Archer was very engaging and – supported by his visual/written materials, the group discussions, and the role-play exercises that he facilitated – he created an extremely informative and practical session, as well as it being a very enjoyable learning experience. Having the opportunity to carry out a negotiation exercise in a ‘safe’ learning environment, with feedback from observers and Paul himself, was very beneficial.

I am delighted to say that on my very first day back at work after the course, I was able to use some of my new knowledge and skills in motivating my team on a particularly busy day. Then on the next day I was confident and effective when handling a conflict situation that suddenly arose; avoiding a confrontation through improved rapport and understanding of my colleague, as a direct result of the course.

The training room at GEL’s Twigworth premises was spacious and comfortable, and worked well for both the presentation and group work. After a busy morning, the buffet lunch was very welcome and delicious.
